How does worm gear box work for speed reduction in dc motors applications?
By using a worm (which is like a screw) and a worm wheel (similar to a spur gear). When the DC motor turns the worm, its threads engage the teeth on the worm wheel. This interaction causes the worm wheel to turn.
The design of worm gear results in a high reduction ratio, meaning the output speed of the worm wheel is significantly lower than the input speed of the worm. This is because the worm can have multiple threads, and the wheel must complete several rotations to turn the worm once.
